I notice a lot of the users during those times are web spider bots. I wonder if they are constantly loading tons of pages to index them for searches all the time? This forums is pretty much it when it comes to web searches for game information at this point.

I've had suspicions it might be the spider-bots. I've just now de-activated all of them, so let's see what happens.

Yep, looks like those damn spiders were the problem.

Wonder if the spider thing is something that has to be done several times a day, site seems a bit slow again, hopefully just a blip.....

I think it might still run slow just on the traffic we're getting at times, but it's not as slow as it was with the spiders running too.

The spiders are completely deactivated so they won't run at any time anymore.

The site goes through a domain server right? Would it be far fetched to assume the domain is satellite based and perhaps the satellite signal is out of reach or being affected in some way?

That's just my theory, could be wrong.

The question really is why it didn't slow down like this in the past. What's the variable that's changed to make it do this? We thought it was the web crawlers, and I'm sure they had something to do with it, but it's obvious that they weren't the only reason at this point. Shame, the site seemed like it was running smoothly until about noon today.

A little bit after 9am here and the site seems to be running good at this hour, of course I know that won't last the whole day. Just figured I'd report anyways

Sword said on the face books that he's working with the hosting company and that it's because the board has become really popular since FPW.

So YOU ALL did this.

I was hoping this wasn't going to be the reason, but figured it was going to be.

Took a few minutes to load this page just now.

Each time I've checked the forums throughout the day, there's been an average of about 45 users online, mostly guests. It's pretty fast in the morning, but right around noon/early afternoon it takes a nosedive in performance and it's not til early morning that it comes back. The sit errored out for me a few times this afternoon too.

Edit around 1AM EST: Loading is pretty quick again.

Guess this is just something we have to accept for now as the new norm.

This was posted a few days ago on FB-

'Work in progress. It's not a software or code issue, it's a server issue, the huge uptick in traffic when World came out has overloaded things a bit. It was a huge jump, from averaging 3 users at a time to over 50. I'm working with my current hosting service to try and get it sorted, and also looking for a new hosting service that will avoid the issue if my current hosts can't get it fixed.'

80 something users currently on as of this post and the thread loaded pretty quickly.

Curiouser and curiouser.
