Anyone here used to make SFPWXP animations?

Postby John » Thu Sep 14, 2017 3:22 am

Back in the late 90's and early 2000's, there was a very small but active community of people who would use the Super Fire Pro Wrestling X Premium SNES rom to make animations. It was a great time, but we all got older and what not. We always migrated to different forums, some used to post here, this being our last -

Some made some really good stuff, like Dogglife -

Anyways, with a new Fire Pro game out getting a little buzz, I was wondering if anyone from those days posts here?

I do. I wasn't great or anything but I did make a few anis, arenas and other stuff.

I know I made at least one if not a couple way back in the day, but I just started getting into the scene before life happened and I fell out. However, this year I made it my mission to search far and wide for whatever remains of those days I could find and I ended up creating some move animations for my youtube channel.

Episode 1 and 2 are mainly just move animations. Both are fairly short videos.

While working on those two videos and their animations, I was quietly working on something bigger in the background :)

That's awesome man. Mauler and I had an idea like that back in 2001ish, we were going to try to make a mini-movie called Chaotic Justice.

Thanks! I wish I could've stuck around the scene longer. There were a lot of cool folks making cool animations and doing really innovative things with the game. I'm so thankful for the Overshadow archive I found (can't remember if it was here or on another board). Just looking at all of the props and rings brought back so many great memories :D

I identified 2 arenas I made in the first video, at 0:27 and 0:35, and at 1:24 in the second video.

I definitely remember your name from the OVS archive! I liked the front facing arena, but the full arena has to be one of the coolest in the entire archive imo.

Wait, are there people who still do animations for this game?

Do you have the OVS archive by any chance?

I check that board every so often, but there isn't much going on.

Thanks! I've had a lot of fun animating with SFPWXP, Queen's Special, and the other stuff I've messed with. Hell, there's even one animation with sprites from Onita's Famicom game! I didn't even know there was such a game until I got back into animating this year.

Huge thanks to OVS for archiving this originally, but none of this would even be possible if not for all the people whose creations, big or small, are included. I hope folks will find this useful or at least enjoy a nice journey into the SFPWXP animation scene of the late 90s.

I was really hoping that I would find all or most of my anis in these archives, but there is only one. I had a few ones that I really wanted to see again, like the tigerdriver-driver.

Do you still have, by any chance, the hacked rom we used for anis? The one that had all moves available in the weak slots?

Turns out I've saved over the original copy I had, but I'm pretty sure you can get it from http://adammatt.tripod.com/ I believe that's where I found it, but it's been over a year and I went through a lot of sites at that time trying to find things. Here's some other links that may be helpful.

I'm currently wrapping up a semester of college, but if I get some more time in the next few days I'll try to look around my computer some more as my sfpwxp folder is massive and there's a chance I've overlooked it.

I really, genuinely used to love these. I never did any, but I'm glad the folks that made them are still [sorta] around.

Ok. Sounds good. Let me know either way.
