Just saw your intro. A++ overall on the production of the event. Very cool.

It will be interesting to see what happens after the post-main event stuff.

There :ceese:

I generally always just drop a few promos in the middle of any sign up topic unless there's something like that.

I've just had a chance to catch the intro and some titles and didn't really have time to comment until now.

But Zealot said it perfectly:

Zealot wrote:Just saw your intro. A++ overall on the production of the event. Very cool.

10000000% this :markout: :ceese:

Honestly, I think that was the best introduction for any FPCPP event ever. FM deserves a TON of credit here for the entire presentation of this show but wow that introduction. Wow :markout: :markout:

I haven't had a chance to check out the matches yet but I did see:

Spoiler: show
YES!! I love that Geese's mystery opponent was Sonny X!! :markout: :markout:

Can't wait to watch that match!! Such a perfect match and 10 years after their original match in the FPCPP inaugural Championship Tournament.

I know I've given you some pushback on FPCPP/Arena matters in the past, FM. But I've never doubted your passion or creativity. That was on full display here and you raised the bar. You did the return show justice (and not just your tag team partner Justice  ) This was FPCPP truly becoming Arena in 2018 8-)

A fitting 10 year Anniversary, return, rebranding, rising :numberone:

Also so damn happy that Riggs and Zealot FINALLY happened  :zealot:

I'm in a posting mood, so I'm going to put the feedback I gave you on the discord here for all to take a gander at.

  • Excellent production on the hype videos and the transitions. Everyone's saying it but I'll say it again, damn fine work.

  • Card is too gotdamn big. I realize it's a supercard for *the* community thing, but the show length can really hurt the watchability. I'd personally aim for 3 hours, absolute tops.

  • For future shows with battle royale placment matches, consider holding the royales as their own shows, separate from the card. Each of the two royales you had in the show could have been a separate stream on its own, not requiring the same amount of pomp and prep since it's just a placement match. You could have held these live during the weeks leading to the show, both building up edit familiarity with your audience and hype for the big event itself.

  • Additionally, consider a manually set 'gauntlet match' as opposed to the royale for future placements. Randomize entry order, have the participants face off in a chain of singles matches, loser is eliminated winner carries on to fight next entrant. This format is very engaging as each singles match has high stakes, and lets the participating edits have a bit of time in the spotlight. Royales are a clusterfuck, and personally I would be glad to see as little of them as possible in Big Community Things.

Now tread lightly, for you are about to enter the SUBJECTIVE DESIGN OPINIONS ZONE.

Spoiler: show
I'd tone down the graphics on the ramp a tad, the cascading logos just don't do it for me, way too busy. The logos on the barricades are really lossy too, I'd consider just making them plain black to help the ring pop. The ring itself is gorgeous.

To be fair, it's been like 4-5 years since we had a real supershow like this. This was also way before we lost Ceese and Fullbug as well. I'm sure cards following this will be much smaller.

Indeed, future shows I hold (official or not) will be much smaller than this one.
For instance, my upcoming FullMETAL FeaturedMATCH: Tag Team Title Trials showcase will only be 7 (probably much-shorter) matches, and the Young EMBER Title Trials showcase after that will also be about the same number.

To address soak's point about putting the contendership matches on the event as opposed to on their own show beforehand, I'd considered that, but ultimately I personally felt that it would do a disservice to those matches and the handlers of the edits involved for not including them on the big giant supershow with the supershow's production values that were used (in addition, I didn't want to add extra pressure on myself to try and stream 2 shows within days of each other while I would still be finishing editing on both separately as opposed to one show with unified resources); as well as the increasing rush I was in to get editing done prior to the air-date (I take full responsibility for not having gotten that stuff done earlier when I promised back in January, and for all my future shows, I do plan on actually finishing resources ahead of time so that I can avoid crunches like this again).
The whole 5-to-6-hour runtime of the final version of the show mainly ended up being a byproduct of how long the individual matches were without being edited for time more than an intentional choice (as well as trying to get as many edits booked onto the show itself as possible, resulting in the 17 matches on the main show and the additional 5 pre-show matches). I might also consider editing longer elimination-style matches down for time in the future as a possible way of shortening show runtimes as a result of this. (one of the sims for the Tag Title match, for instance, ran for 40 in-game minutes before a technical glitch forced me to scrap it)

Btw, I really dig the Gauntlet idea, and I think I might consider implementing THAT for the format of the Young EMBER showcase (or for a Grand-Prix Title Trials showcase) as opposed to just singles matches between each ordered elimination from the 2 battle royal matches (as in, the #5 elimination from each faces each other, the #4 elimination, etc).

As for the arena's design choices, I'd had probably like 5 different ideas kicking around in my head (but considering that it would've taken at least 2 or more hours more worth of testing if I'd went through with testing all those texture ideas, I had to cut it down to 2 competing ideas -- the ring texture idea was already set from the very beginning, taking its root from the original FPWArena ring texture with some tweaks), and I agree that the colors were quite busy (while the standard Arena Orange+Gray combo could have sufficed, I wanted to pop the entire arena with more than just those 2 colors for the scheme), though the look of the ramp was 100% something I had in mind from the very beginning (admittedly, I could've implemented the flame-sides a bit better than they turned out).

My future arena looks will definitely be much more "sensible"-looking, a lot less busy, and the arena that I plan for my next big supershow-style event in 2019 (as well as my standardized SCS Arena texture set for all my FullMETAL FeaturedMATCH shows) will also look much more sensible, without trying to cram so much stuff into it.
I'm also considering a possible 2nd 2018 Arena-branded major event for sometime near Survivor Series time (I promise it'll have less than 15 matches on it, possibly 10-15 max), if there's enough agreement from all of you, and the textures for that will also be much less frantic than the ones were for ARENA Rising. (Hopefully I can keep the production values on that somewhat comparable to AR)

Thanks for all the feedback so far, keep it coming!

Updated with DODEKAGON Championship match; Battlefront Championship match will probably end up going up last since it's the longest one.
Next to go up is the Joshivision Championship match.

Again, I promise I'm working on getting them edited and up (the editing is taking longer than it should because the sound de-synch'ed on all them -- a combination of Custom Match BGM and FreeCam -- and I had to re-synch).
