Alan Rickman died today at age 69 after a battle with cancer

Alan, thank you for your entertaining roles in pretty much anything you touched.

Man, Lemmy, Bowie, and now Hans Gruber to start the year.

That's a lot of cultural poignancy just....gone

Rickman had one of the single most instantly recognizable voices ever and despite it's perceived monotony, he could parley all sorts of emotion with it. Not bad for a guy with a speech impediment that people thought would lead to his failure as a performer. Dude was pretty great and I enjoyed every movie that I saw him in.

One of my personal favorites. He'll be sorely missed.

I know the term is over used, but I honestly believe his portrayal of villains was legendary. One of the great heel actors of our time. And not too bad at comedy either (i.e. Galaxy Quest). Thoughts and prayers for the friends and family he left behind. Thanks for the memories Alan, and rest in peace.

His role as the Metatron in Dogma always solidified him as a cynical face to me.

To mention, there have actually been several other deaths, notably lesser known/popular actors from days gone by.

Forget lousy week, it's been a pretty rough start to the year...

Longtime Bowie fan, but as undeniably talented as he was, he never struck home for me the way Frey did. I suppose they were both icons in their own way, but like I said, Frey was down home special. Aside from his music, I loved his work on the Wiseguy TV series. If you've never seen it, you might want to check it out. Dead Dog Arc. AMAZING.

Two huge losses no doubt.

RIP Maurice White (74) of Earth, Wind, and Fire fame

although he'd been retired from the stage for 30 years, he is in my opinion still THE voice of the legendary act and they were never the same without him on stage (though he did remain as the band's manager upon his Parkinson's-induced retirement)

The tag team of 2016 and Cancer have taken another. He may not be THAT well known but he was the creator of two of my favorite animations...

Daniel Gerson, who co-wrote Disney/Pixar’s “Monsters, Inc.” movies and “Big Hero 6,” died at his home on Saturday. He was 49. The lost his fight with brain cancer.

Sam Spence who composed/coopted all of those iconic little tunes for NFL Films from the 60s to the 90s also died a few days ago, aged 88. About a decade ago, his stuff even started showing up in Madden games.

Former ECW, FMW, and Japanese Legend Hayabusa, has passed away this morning. Eiji Ezaki, better known to the wrestling world as Hayabusa, was found dead with the cause being a subarachnoid hemorrhage (bleeding in the area of the brain and the tissues that cover the brain).

He only spent a few months in the North American territories along with an appearance ECW Heatwave 1998 in an amazing contest with Sabu & Rob Van Dam. In October 2001, Haybusa suffered a broken neck while attempting an Asai Moonsault (Lionsault). He cracked two of his vertebrae & left him paralyzed.

A video emerged of the legend rising from his wheelchair and walked to the ring for the first time since his accident, for a ceremonial 10 count. A true inspiration.

That's a shame. And to think he was actually making strides in his mobility. RIP.

R.I.P. Hayabusa.

This is made more difficult by the fact that his health seemed to be improving like Zealot and Torvar mentioned.

I remember seeing that and being amazed and so thankful for his recovery.

I don't know if his death had anything directly to do with the initial injury but I'm guessing that it did.

Hayabusa was one of the first default wrestlers I ever used in FPD. I loved using him (in particular for his strikes) and he became one of my favorites to use. As a result I started to look up his real life matches and was stunned at how awesome he was. The RVD/Sabu vs. Hayabusa/JInsei Shinzaki match still blows me away. And everything Hayabusa did was breathtaking.
