Has Peyton filed his retirement papers? I fully expect him to be back but I don't see any team wanting him.

Denver still has the rights to Peyton. If he wants to play again, Denver will either take him back, trade him or release him.

This exact situation happened with the Packers when Brett Favre first retired. He changed his mind, but Green Bay kept his rights and traded him to the Jets.

I seriously doubt that he will come out of retirement. He's pretty much done.

After he takes a little time off, Peyton will get a front office job somewhere and eventually become a GM somewhere. I can't see him in front of a camera as a commentator or analyst. His forehead will take up much of the screen

Plus, he's got no real charisma to speak of. He's got management written all over him...

I think the main reason they signed him is so they could have a veteran option if needed. Butt fumble aside, Sanchez can manage a game if need be. Elway mentioned that this move is the first step in the process, so I'm thinking they will take either Paxton Lynch or Dak Prescott in the draft.

With all due respect, both of those people have silly names.

Dak Prescott got picked up for a DUI last night. There goes his chances of being picked high.

Dallas might get him cheap at pick 4 of round 3. They have Romo so they don't need to spend a high pick on a QB. They have other needs first.

As for my Packers, I'm happy that they are once again not active in free agency, setting them up for some nice comp picks next year. They got a couple 4ths this year for losing a couple players last year. If they lose Hayward, he should be worth a 3rd round comp next year.

Fair enough

I'm certainly not condemning anyone for their name but I couldn't help notice how unusual they are.

Not quite "Vontez Burfict" distinct but uncommon nonetheless.

I don't comment in this thread a lot but I wanted to say that I enjoy discussing silly names :D

Dak Prescott sounds like an edit name from a handler that has completely given out of fucks to give

"Hmmm... Dan Prescott sounds like a good name. Whoops! I accidentally chose a 'k' instead of an 'n'."

*Looks at clock and sighs*

I'm coming out of retirement to say that Barkavius Mingo, D'Brickishaw Ferguson, and Haha Clinton-Dix are on the Mount Rushmore of awesome/unusual player names as far as I'm concerned, Dick Butkus or Bronco Nagurski would have to fight it out for the legends position.

Also somehow this year is even more depressing as a 49ers fan than last. I'm all for a good implosion/ self-destruction but just not doing anything is way worse IMO.

Dick Butkus is the Ric Flair of funny names. Multiple champion and everyone nods in respect when it's brought up.

Haha Clinton-Dix is a revelation

D'Brickishaw Ferguson is a name that I'd tell an edit maker to simplify cause they are doing too much with it.

"Try Brick Shaw."

I know they had a good run a few years ago but I pretty much resigned myself that we got the best possible performance out of the entire franchise in the 80's and 90's. It was phenomenal and I got to watch it so I'm not complaining :D

I think the Yankees are the only franchise in all pro sports that somehow are able to get multiple golden areas.

I can't honestly imagine seeing another comparable 49ers or Bulls dynasty in my lifetime or ever.

Dynasties are a thing of the past due to the salary cap era. At least for football anyways. Baseball and basketball have no salary cap so teams can spend as much as they want, but money doesn't always guarantee championships. Just look at the free spending teams that failed to win a title. I'm a firm believer in draft and develop.

I 100% agree that money and talent don't always guarantee championships or even trips to the championship round.

Injuries, happenstance (random number generators), and brackets often do. "Styles make fights".

Look at the Oklahoma Thunder. An elite team over the past 5 years who got bitten by the injury bug and just happened to be facing other elite teams. One trip to the finals and that's it. People expected a dynasty (at least in the west coast). Even the Spurs haven't been as dominant as they could have been cause of the intense west coast competition.

For another Chicago team to repeat what the 90's Bulls did would take so many factors that are nearly impossible to control and combine. That's not even considering the "best of all time" hype factor that they got during and after.

I guess the Lakers did come kind of close to repeating their past success though. Kobe has 5 Titles just as Magic does. I suppose if there is one other sports franchise that can have multiple dynasties like the Yankees, it may be the Lakers.

The NFL's New England Patriots are the closest to being a dynasty as any team can be these days. Otherwise, parity reigns supreme in football.

I feel slightly better about the Bryant situation knowing that the Baltimore Ratbirds signed Eric Weddle to a 4 year, $29 million contract.
