So aside from FPR not having the "wrist lock from the back" setup (which isn't really Spike's fault since the Rainmaker starts off in such an innovative way, and years after FPR), there is like no real torque/twist at the beginning of it leaving the entire move feeling lacking for Okada.

I've seen the setup in some 90's era Brit vs Brit matches (Regal vs. Doc Dean and such) but it always seemed to get countered.

Wow, I loved that article and reading the one linked in it that preceded it :markout:

Pancrase has always been fascinating to me since hearing it mentioned during the UFC 1 broadcast.

I have a lot more understanding of Suzuki and the history of Pancrase after reading that.

I've been trying to put together a sort of "The Kayfabe of Martial Arts" but it seems each time I try to get started there's another mountain of stuff to go through.

But an aside, a few more old equivalents
Ashi Kujiki- Half Crab
(Gyaku) Hayanada- Disarmher
Kubi Kiri- some go really far out into a flying side headlock takeover

Anaconda Vice is a hybrid of the arm triangle and the time hold. Which themselves are variations of the shoulder hold (katagatame) and the scarf hold (kesagatame).

So I thought I had narrowed some stuff down via some old wrestling books, but upon further review it was a completely different setup and there were a lot of weird abbreviations. Like, well, the cross-buttocks is just called butt.
